Yes, Dan. A thousand times yes.

Dan Hon is a smart person. I've mentioned his "Things that caught my attention" newsletter once or twice. It rarely disappoints. He often manages to look at things from a different angle, shining light on facets I hadn't considered before.

(I prize this trait above much else. It's one of the reasons my personal domain has been "sidelong.org" for the past couple of decades; a sidelong approach to stuff is often a wise one.)

Last night was no exception. Dan had been thinking about a common social media problem: times when you just feel like putting something out there, but don't necessary want to "start a conversation". Or still worse have one forced on you.

As an occasional misanthrope (charitable people would just say "introvert", but I might as well acknowledge my failings), I get this. It's one of the reasons I have a solo room in Chambers: I like people, and love a number of them; but sometimes I really don't have the bandwidth for two-way communication and just need to get something out of my head.

(Um. This site and newsletter. Um. 'Nuff said.)

Dan's solution: stickers. But of course. To be tagged onto a post to make things abundantly clear.

Such as:

Do not reply with a software suggestion

Or:

DO NOT REPLY TO TELL ME WHY A THING I LIKE IS BAD

Or, may his blessings be without number for doing this one:

DO NOT REPLY. I’M JUST COMPLAINING, NOT ASKING FOR HELP.

Oh sweet lord yes.

The whole collection is here. Knock yourself out.
